The Lenasia South Sector Patrollers was started in October 2015 by a group of concerned residents in Lenasia South. After an increase in criminal activity in the area, the group of 10 community members decided to take it upon themselves to ensure their street was clean of crime.
A neighborhood whatsapp group was created and community members would post criminal activity on the group. The 10 dedicated members would attend to these incidents and every night they would patrol their street up until the early parts of the morning.
Their commitment and dedication towards curbing crime in the area paid off when after 2 months, the rest of the community took an interest in the good work that was being done and supported the initiative.
To date, the Lenasia South Sector Patrollers (LSSP) stand at 75 strong, dedicated members. 6 Whatsapp groups have now been created to cater for the increase of members within the community. Each night there is a shift that is on duty that patrols Lenasia South Ext 1, Ext 2, as well as parts of Ext 4. Day incidents are attended to by members that are available. The
team comprises of level 3 First aiders, that can assist the community by keeping patients alive until help arrives, as well as JMPD trained traffic marshals, to assist with accident scenes, funerals, etc.
LSSP has the backing of Pulsate Emergency Services, to render paramedic help to the Lenasia South Community.
A 2 way radio initiative has also started in the area and to date we have +/- 70 mic holders.
